The Infinite Sense of Melancholy:

The Infinite Sense of Melancholy, is an ambitious feature length film in Mandarin, that began filming in 2005. The idea was to create an entire film with the same person involved in all it’s creative production. Making it somewhat like a painting, where each stroke and color mix had the same artist’s touch in it’s creation. TISOM aimed to do that. TISOM was a music-filled movie, with unique themes written for each of the 3 central characters. Different orchestral instruments will also be chosen to illustrate each character’s individuality, and hint at the prevailing emotions of the scene. The challenge for the entire film score, was to have the music become part of the scene, instead of being a background element. Thus all scores were recorded “live” to the scenes, with the goal of marrying the score to the dialogue, much like music and lyrics. I hope you’ll enjoy this brief preview of selected scores from TISOM as much as I enjoyed creating layers of melancholia. : J Rich
